Court of Justice, Hasselt, Belgium

The architecture of the Court of Justice (Gerechtsgebouw) in Hasselt, Belgium is inspired by and alludes to a feature of the city's coat of arms, the hazel tree, under which Germanic tribes used to administer justice. The allusion also extends inside the building, with tables in the shape of branches and illustrations of foliage.
The main building accommodates offices and courtrooms, as well as a police station, library and restaurant. Sustainable energy consumption was a priority in the design, and the architects picked EI30-rated Pyrobel double glazing for the internal partitions of the various rooms.
