Pyrobel fire-resistant glass: Delivery network in Germany is ready!

Anyone who is responsible for international construction projects as a planner, architect or consulting engineer is probably familiar with the Pyrobel brand AGC Glass Europe of fire-resistant glazing, thanks to its use in building projects worldwide for over 35 years. Demand continues to grow owing to the extensive product range and its unique environmental credentials. AGC is currently the only supplier with a “Cradle to Cradle Silver” certification – making it the best solution for anyone who needs sustainable fire-resistant glass . The general building authority approval (abZ) for the German market, is currently being prepared by the German Institute for Building Technology (DIBt). A quick, efficient delivery network for Pyrobel is already in place, and the brand can soon also be used within Germany without the need for approval in individual cases (ZiE).

With Pyrobel, AGC Glass Europe probably offers the world's largest product portfolio of fire-resistant glass and is the only supplier to offer both of the main two technologies used to manufacture fire-resistant glass solutions. - Products are available as cut-to-size laminated glass and also as tailor-made and toughened insulating glazing with fire protection, thermal insulation and solar control protection. The goal is always a high level of passive fire protection for reliable protection for people and buildings from fire, smoke and heat. In the event of a fire, the glazing protects escape routes, facilitates access for rescue services , limits the damage to the building, and preserves the stability of structural elements - the intervention time is considerably extended. AGC’s Pyrobel team sees itself as a solutions provider with application-based technical advice and a high degree of flexibility. The network in Europe now includes 100 partners and three European production sites.

Fire-resistant glass processed to order

Pyrobel is a laminated safety glass which, depending on the classification, has one or more clear, intumescent interlayers that are invisible to the observer. In the event of a fire, the intumescent layers react and form a solid and opaque fire protection barrier, which both prevents flashover and reduces heat transfer and keeps the temperature on the pane surface low. The product is fire-resistant on both sides according to EN 13501-2 and has been extensively tested in wood, steel and composite doors, glazed partition walls and curtain walls. The product is delivered to AGC’s specialist glass processing partners in the dimensions 225 x 321 centimeters and, with the appropriate equipment, can be cut and processed according to the project needs. In Germany, however, a direct distribution channel from AGC production plants is most commonly used and the glass is already cut to size.

The symmetrical structure of the standard product Pyrobel 16 (EI30) is relatively slim: the two outer panes made of float glass are only 3 millimeters thick, the inner pane 8 millimeters, and AGC applies a 1.5 millimeter thin interlayer between the panes. Depending on the used product, the glazing offers a safe, glazed partition solution and integrity and  insulation performance up to class EI180, and protection against heat radiation up to class EW60 as well as impact safety in accordance with EN 12600.

The radiation transmission is less than 15 kW / m2. Pyrobel is used in applications such as glazed partitions, in glazed apertures in doors, curtain walls, floors and roofs (for the latter in EI30 and EI60). The glass can be used in a wide temperature range from -40 ° C to +50 ° C.

Brandwerendheidsklassen E EW EI Pyrobel brandwerend glas

The Pyrobelite product is ideally suited for glass partition walls and doors. It is fire-resistant on both sides, extensively tested in wood, steel or aluminum profiles and easy to install. In terms of performance, it corresponds to the EW classification as well as  EI15 and offers impact safety in accordance with EN 12600.

Tailor-made XXL fire-resistant glass

The toughened glass version Pyrobel-T is available in particularly large dimensions up to 2m x 4.5min custom-made insulating glass units (IGU) solutions that can also be combined with all low-E and solar control coatings from AGC.  Pyrobel-T has also been extensively tested in wood, steel and aluminum profiles. It has a high daylight transmission (LT) of 87%. The product is also resistant to UV radiation and moisture as well as providing impact resistance. The glazing offers  up to 60 minutes integrity and insulation performance (EI60) and up to 120 minutes integrity and low radiation performance (EW120). AGC All Pyrobel-T products are Heat Soak Tested (HST) in order to mitigate against the risk of spontaneous breakage of toughened safety glass.. Pyrobel T is an ideal solution for external windows and facades.

Highly transparent all-glass walls without the need for mullions

The highly transparent Pyrobel Vision Line offers real added value for interior architecture: with this product, all-glass walls can be created without the need for mullions between the panes of glass. Glass to glass panes are separated by a slim, fire-resistant silicone joint, which safely seals the “gap” in the event of a fire. Stylish and modern all-glass walls with the highest level of transparency can even be built around corners. This product is also fire-resistant on both sides and also offers optimal sound insulation (EN 12758). Pyrobel Vision Line is also available as the low iron AGC glass "Clearvision", so it is particularly clear and transparent. Vision Line solutions are also available with Pyrobel-T products for projects with XXL dimensions Vision Line solutions are available for interior partitions with performance of up to 120 minutes integrity and insulation (EI120, as well as high impact protection in accordance with EN 12600 and can optionally be equipped with a filter to protect against UV light exposure.

All fire-resistant glass solutions from AGC have been awarded the Cradle to Cradle™ certificate in silver, which makes it easier for architects and planners to certify buildings according to environmental standards such as LEED and BREEAM.
